Together with Coca-Cola Great Britain (CCGB) we manufacture, market, distribute and sell some of the most popular drinks in the world.
Coca-Cola is proud to have been making soft drinks in Britain for more than 100 years. We are a well-established local business with a strong regional presence. Our drinks are produced at six sites from Sidcup, Kent to East Kilbride, Scotland, including Europe’s largest soft drinks factory in Wakefield. In fact, we make 97 percent of our drinks here in Great Britain. You can find out more about being a local business in our report below.
As we seek to grow our business, we continue to work hard to minimise the environmental impact of our operations and reduce our carbon emissions. We are also committed to taking actions that will help to address the public health challenge of obesity.
We encourage our consumers to choose active lifestyles in which they balance the energy they consume with the energy they expend. We provide consumers with a wide choice of products and empower them to make informed choices. We have invested significant time and resource in reformulating some of our most popular drinks. Successful reformulations have been made possible by our research and innovation with new ingredients, such as stevia leaf extract, which makes it possible to produce lower calorie drinks that still taste great. In Great Britain, all our brands have a reduced or zero sugar and calorie option alternative.
We’ve set ourselves tough environmental targets focusing on growing a low-carbon, zero-waste business. We committed to reduce the carbon footprint of the drink in your hand by one third by 2020, which will require reducing carbon emissions comprehensively across the entire value chain, from the purchasing of sustainable ingredients, right through to our packaging, bottling, transporting and chilling processes We even look at the way consumers dispose of our product once they have consumed it and focus on anti-litter and recycling initiatives.
As water is the main ingredient in our products, and central to our manufacturing processes, we are committed to establishing a water sustainable operation by protecting our water sources, reducing our water use, recycling the water we use for manufacturing and replenishing the water we use in our drinks. By 2020, we hope to be able to use only 1.2 litres of water for every litre of product we make.
We know we can’t achieve all this on our own and we are committed to finding solutions through collaboration with a wide range of stakeholders. We look forward to delivering on our commitments towards a sustainable future.
