Wakefield

    • Wakefield was established in 1989 and employs 450 employees.

    • Wakefield is the largest soft drinks plant by volume in Europe, manufacturing and distributing in excess of 100 million cases per annum.

    • We have seven manufacturing lines and two pre-form injection lines

    • We can produce 6,000 cans of soft drink every minute - that's 100 per second.

    • We can also produce up to 2,200 PET* bottles every minute.

    • Our site buildings cover an area the size of 16 football pitches.

    • Since 2007, we've invested over £100 million to make Wakefield one of the fastest producers of soft drinks in the world.

    • Since 2006 we've reduced our water consumption ratio by fifty per cent.

    • Wakefield has the capability to produce 1 billion litres of finished product per year.


Reducing our impact on the environment

We've reduced our energy consumption by 33% since 2006.

We've done this by investing in a sophisticated 'Monitoring and Targeting' system. We have installed over 80 separate meters providing detailed energy consumption data for equipment, process and production lines across the site at five minute intervals.

This enables us to pinpoint where energy is being consumed, and focus our energy reduction programmes in the right areas.

The team also runs programmes to raise awareness amongst employees to ensure the equipment is run asefficiently as possible, and minimal energy is wasted.

In 2014, we introduced a 1.2mw combined heat and power plant allowing us to generate our own electricity and recover the heat, reducing the site carbon footprint by over 5%.

At Wakefield we receive 100% of our electricity from renewable sources.  In 2017 we began working with a local solar farm, located 1.5 miles from CCEP’s our site. The solar farm is directly connected to the factory via a series of underground cables, delivering 15%* of the site’s total electricity use and helping to reduce its operational carbon footprint by 8.6%.

The solar farm covers eight hectares, the size of twelve football pitches, and will produce up to five Mega Watts of energy. In 2014, a £1m combined heat & power (CHP) system was also launched at CCEP’s Wakefield site, saving some 1,500 tons of CO2 a year across the factory’s operations, a 5.6% reduction for the site. Together with the renewable electricity sourced from solar, 3,800 tonnes of CO2 will be saved at the Wakefield site per year – equal to taking more than 1,700 cars off the road.**

In addition, we blow our own plastic bottles on site from small injection moulded components called 'preforms', which we also manufacture here on site. We make over 450 million preforms every year, which is much more efficient than having them produced elsewhere and then transported to the site.

In 2014, we also opened a fully-automated warehouse with a capacity of 30,000 pallets, taking our on-site storage to 45,000 pallets.
