Coca-Cola – Delivering 125 Years of Happiness

Monday, April 18, 2011

Sunday 8th May, 2011 marks the 125th anniversary of the iconic, number one brand, Coca-Cola[1] . To celebrate the landmark occasion, Coca-Cola will be celebrating this significant milestone with a new integrated marketing campaign, special commemorative packs and a range of in-store point of sale (POS).

The supporting campaign and bespoke graphics on-pack play on the heritage of the Coca-Cola brand, and celebrates Coca-Cola's iconic adverts and the vintage 'Real Thing' theme. Shoppers will also have the chance to collect a series of 8 limited edition fridge magnets each depicting a vintage Coca-Cola image[2] . The on-pack offer will be available on every limited edition Coca-Cola and Coke Zero 330ml 10/12/15 multi can pack.

As well as the special packs and limited edition fridge magnet offer, a wide range of POS materials will be available for multiples and independents to make the most of the occasion and ensure maximum awareness among customers in-store.

Consumer and shopper advertising will create further impact leading up to and on the anniversary and will include a new TV ad, outdoor posters and digital activity on Coke Zone. The new TV ad features elements from the iconic Hilltop advert and will take fans back in time through a series of montage retro images from the brand's famous past, as well as the soundtrack from Hilltop classic which coined the phase "I'd like to teach the world to sing".

Coca-Cola will also introduce the Retro Poster Maker. Utilising the rich iconic advertising archives, the Retro Poster Maker is a Global and European digital campaign. Fans of Coca-Cola will have the opportunity to become immortalised into a poster for the first time in the brand's history.

Craig Smith, Vice President Marketing & Strategic Planning at CCE, comments: "This is a truly momentous year for the Coca-Cola brand as we celebrate its 125th birthday. Hailed yet again as Britain's biggest brand in March this year[3] , Coca-Cola has enjoyed consistent strong success over the years due to its incredible heritage and of course, great taste. We believe that clear and consistent brand values combined with innovation to meet consumers' changing needs have ensured that Coca-Cola is even more relevant to consumers today than it was 125 years ago.

"Retailers across GB will be able to capitalise on Coca-Cola's 125th year above the line celebrations in-store with Coca-Cola's iconic retro-themed range of POS, commemorative and added value heritage packs, across April and May, especially over the Bank Holiday period."

Coca-Cola 125 year special commemorative packs will be available on the following Coca-Cola and Coke Zero formats - 500ml PET bottle; 330ml can; 2l, 1.5l PET; 6/8/24/30 330ml can packs; 10/12/15 330ml can packs.

POS will be available nationwide from April 2011. Retailers should contact 08457 227 222 for stockist details.

1.If all of Coca-Cola ever produced was put into 8-ounce contour bottles:

  • There would be more than six trillion bottles, which stacked end-to-end, would reach 468 miles high - 85 times taller than Mount Everest
  • The six trillion bottles roughly equals 966 bottles - or more than 56 gallons of Coca-Cola - for every person in the world

2.If all the Coca-Cola bottles in the world were laid end to end they would reach the moon and back more than 1,677 times
