Special Olympics

Coca‑Cola has supported the Special Olympics in Great Britain since 1978 by providing a wide choice of refreshments to athletes, coaches, officials and volunteers and by conducting promotions and fundraising activities to support Special Olympics events. The charity enables people with a learning disability to acquire, through sport, the confidence and social and life skills that will help their inclusion in society. They provide year-round sports training and competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports, giving athletes continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage and experience joy. Special Olympics GB currently has 5,000 participants with a learning disability, and with the commitment from Coca‑Cola Great Britain in 2002 to a further four years' funding, intends to double this number by 2005. A total of 199 athletes competed for Special Olympics GB in the June 2003 World Games in Dublin.
