About Morpeth
- Morpeth has four manufacturing lines.
- We employ 50 people.
- This site is the only source of Schweppes Abbey Well Natural Mineral Water, and the only Coca-Cola Enterprises (CCE) water site in Great Britain.
- Every drop of our Natural Mineral Water has been naturally filtered through water bearing white sandstonefor at least 3,000 years.
- Schweppes Abbey Well is the official water of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
- Built in 1981, the site became part of CCE in November 2008.
- We produce 2.5 million cases of drinks every year.
- The site is capable of producing still and sparkling waterin both glass and PET* bottles.
Reducing our impact on the environment
At Coca-Cola Enterprises, one of our key sustainability priorities is to minimise the water use of ouroperations. The amount of water used for every litre of final product produced is known as the 'wateruse ratio'.
When CCE took over the operation of Morpeth in 2008, the water use ratio was approximately 2.0: two litres of water used for every one litre of product produced. By 2010 we had reduced this ratio to 1.72 and we set the ambitious target of reducing the ratio even further to 1.35 by the end of 2011. Today, we are already ahead of this goal, meaning that when our lines are operational we are saving 147,500 litres of water every week.We are now targeting a future water use ratio of below 1.2.Some of the ways we have reduced our water usage is by optimising cleaning procedures and the cycle timeand pressure of the PET rinsers.
