CCE and the Environment
Coca-Cola Enterprises wants to minimise the environmental impact of its products and operations and reduce our carbon footprint.
- Six of our manufacturing sites in Great Britain meet ISO14001 certification, the highest international standard for environmental management.
- All our glass bottles are 100% recyclable and contain an average of 37% recycled materials.
- Our cans are all made from 100% recyclable aluminium and contain around 50% recycled aluminium.
- Our plastic bottles are all made from PET (polyethylene teraphthalate) and are 100% recyclable. Since 1994 we've reduced the weight of our PET bottle by 38.5% from 39 grams to 25 grams. To help make this happen we've invested in new bottle-blowing facilities at our factories in Sidcup and Wakefield.
- In 2008 as part of the Courtauld Commitment, Waste & Resources Action Programme (WRAP), announced that the grocery sector had halted packaging growth and was on track to decrease packaging and food waste by 2010.
- Reducing landfill is a top priority for us. Our East Kilbride, Milton Keynes and Sidcup sites are aiming to be zero waste - to recycle all of their waste by sending none to landfill by 2011.
- We now calculate and publish the CO2 emissions resulting from the manufacture and distribution of all our brands. To understand our carbon footprint in more detail, in 2007 we announced a partnership with the Carbon Trust to measure all greenhouse gas emissions embodied within selected products in our portfolio.
- In 2008 we launched Recycle Zone, the UK's first branded 'on-the-go' recycling scheme. Working with WRAP, we have a three year plan to create 80 Recycle Zones in busy locations around the UK by 2011.
